Twenty-Five Boy Scouts Off for River Camp

Evansville man jailed on bad check charge after probation visit
David Helper, 38, walked into the Probation Department at the police station in Evansville Ind. He faced Detectives Ashworth and Duncan on a charge of passing bad checks. He pleaded not guilty.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt born 1882 in Hyde Park New York rose through Harvard and Columbia Law School to NY bar in 1907. He served as NY state senator 1910 to 1913 then assistant secretary of the Navy until 1920 and ran as James Cox vice president in 1920. He acted as WWI naval inspector in Europe and led 1919 demobilization. He backed Alfred E. Smith in 1928 and was NY governor elected 1928 and re elected 1930 with a record Democratic majority.

Four Injured In Auto Crash Near Fulton
Four people were injured three miles east of Fulton after a two-car crash Friday night. In the Sperr party from St. Louis, Mo., Mr and Mrs Lee Sperr suffered cuts and bruises, while Lillie Carter and Eva Stuart, both of St. Louis, sustained deep head wounds and other injuries. Eva Stuart broke a collar bone. An eastbound Benson car from Hope and Texarkana hailed the stalled vehicle for help. The crash occurred when the Sperr car, blinded by Benson’s headlights, struck the rear of the parked negro car. All four were taken to Josephine hospital. Benson was unhurt. The negroes were en route to Fulton for a funeral of Willie Stuart, slain by Lee Hendrix.

Curtis Hoax Case Sent to Jury in Lindbergh Kidnap Hoax
In Flemington New Jersey John Hughes Curtis of Norfolk was found guilty of aiding the Lindbergh baby kidnapers and hindering capture by a jury that recommended mercy. The judge charged acquittal if Curtis showed no actual contact with the kidnappers.
