Loveland Valentine Postmark Thrives With Cupid’s Touch

Loveland Colorado prepares for Valentine Day with a special postmark. Postmaster Fred Brewer and staff process about 100000 valentines for all states and many countries. Brewer hand cancels around 8000 cards, including those for his wife and five grandchildren. The city of 18500 remails cards bearing a bare bottomed Cupid in a cowboy hat and the verse The heart brand reaches far throughout the land. The campaign began in 1947. Anyone can mail valentines to Loveland for redistribution by enclosing in a second envelope. The Chamber of Commerce names Miss Loveland Valentine from local high school seniors each year. Other Lovelands exist in Ono Oklahoma and Iowa but receive far fewer remailings.
