In President Johnson’s budget sent to Congress 151 new federal buildings were listed, including the Hope Arkansas post office and federal building. Editor Alex Washburn led a one-man campaign collecting over 1000 signatures opposing the site change, arguing the old post office should be preserved, but the General Services Administration shifted the site and the project proceeded with a budgeted amount of 346,300 dollars.
