Pressure Charged in Resignation by Arkansas Official
John R. Starr reports Bill L. Brown resigned Monday as supervisor of nursing homes in the Arkansas Social Services Division amid charges of pressure to place patients in a nursing home owned by Rep. Bubba Wade. Wade, owner of Pinehurst Nursing Home, defended himself saying his facilities received more welfare patients before his first term. Brown alleged illegal advance payments for political reasons, while Jennings denied applying pressure and said he sought Brown’s performance improvement. Wade asserted no impropriety and noted his eight year Pinehurst ownership and five year North Heights Manor presidency.
