Pupils Save Providence High With Student Fundraiser
In New Lenox Illinois 557 students raised nearly 30000 to keep Providence High School open for at least three to five years after a 90000 deficit. Parents aided fundraising with car washes spaghetti dinners and a New Year's Eve dance while mothers ran the cafeteria and fathers organized pledge drives. Donations came from Catholics and non Catholics alike and the bishop announced the school would remain open.
