Rommel drank poison over plot to arrest him in 1944
Allied documents reveal Hitler ordered the arrest of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel for complicity in the July 20 plot. Rommel, wounded and convalescent, reportedly killed himself with poison in a car seat as Nazi generals Bergdorf and Meisel stood nearby, after learning of the order.
