Poland's Gdynia rises as Baltic port hub and resort
In 1924 Poland chose Gdynia to gain a Baltic seaport and built wharves and basins at the small fishing village. It grew to a modern metropolis with 100000 residents, 40 shipping lines, and connections to 120 ports. Last year exports reached over 7 million tons. The port also drew 15000 summer visitors and will host coastal fortifications on Hel Peninsula.
