Altus Hurhey of Ashley County is jailed on first degree murder charges as investigators determine whether the crime occurred in Ashley or Drew County near the Line community. John Sedberry, 62, died in a Monticello hospital. son Homer Sedberry, 41, was wounded but not in critical condition.
Seoul reports President Syngman Rhee says the United States will continue economic aid to Korea. He notes Korea is uniquely fighting communism in Asia and believes Congress may reconsider aid after the ECA enabling act defeat. U S Aid Director Arthur C Bunce hopes Washington finds new ways to provide needed assistance.

In Arkansas the White River began falling and warmer weather was expected to help recede floodwaters. Coast guard and Arkansas National Guard evacuated residents east of Wynne, Marianna, and nearby areas using amphibious trucks. About 7,000 people and belongings were moved as flooding covered roughly 180 square miles. Red Cross provided tents, cots, and blankets to evacuees.
