AT&T signs historic $38 million civil rights pact
The agreement settles the largest job discrimination case in U.S. history with AT&T and 24 Bell subsidiaries paying $15 million to about 15,000 Black, Spanish-speaking and female workers and $23 million in wage adjustments to lift minority men and women to equal standing. The Labor Department calls it dramatic. NOW deems the $15 million back pay modest but substantial. CWA president labels it hollow and asks Nixon to block it.

Savings Bonds sales meet county goal in December 1972
Hempstead County reported 1972 year totals for Series E and H Savings Bonds at 177,976 and 109.1 percent of annual goal with December sales of 17,334 compared to 146,581 in 1971.
