U S to Up Interest on Saving Bonds
The U S government will raise interest on all saving bonds to the maximum allowable rate, with an increase likely around 4.4 percent. Treasury Secretary Fowler said the move follows the White House order to boost savings bond returns as other rates have risen. Senate finance leaders noted no consultation before the announcement, but McCarthy said greater rate hikes have already occurred in other instruments.
