Solvency drive and austerity face British government

Prime Minister Harold Wilson unveils a two prong plan to make Britain solvent by cutting military spending abroad and trimming social services at home. The program includes withdrawing most forces east of Suez by 1971 and cutting or canceling a large order for American F111 bombers, with a continued token presence in Singapore after 1971. The plan aims to boost exports and reduce domestic spending, setting the stage for a confidence vote in the Labour government despite internal opposition.
