Typhoid Outbreak Traps 1600 Aboard Oronsay in Quarantine
About 1600 aboard the luxury liner remain in port at Vancouver for at least two more days as health officials hunt for a typhoid carrier. Six crewmen are ill with typhoid, while 700 passengers and 600 crew have been inoculated since the outbreak began. Three hundred would-be disembarkers are held aboard the Oronsay or on its sister ship Oriana. Tests show food and drink aboard the Oronsay are free of typhoid. No panic aboard, captain says, as international health rules allow quarantine.
