Winter Storm Paralyzes Eastern United States

A massive snowstorm, described as the winter's worst by the Weather Bureau, swept the eastern United States with up to six inches in New York and heavy drifts in Illinois Indiana and Ohio. From 5 to 10 inches fell in western Pennsylvania as hundreds of motorists were stranded and schools closed. The storm, with gale force winds and high tides along the coast, prompted warnings and widespread disruptions from Tennessee to New England.

Manhunt Follows Wreck Near Gentry After Car Theft

Washington and Benton sheriff deputies and state police chased a suspect through snow after a car stolen Sunday night in the Siloam Springs area was found wrecked on a country road four miles southwest of Gentry. The operator Wesley Bledse at a service station was not hurt. An inch of snow covered the ground. Sheriff John Black said the vehicle had been stolen Sunday night in the Siloam Springs area.
