Death of Woman Flier Is Probed
Mrs Neva Finley Paris a 21 year old prize winner in the last women’s national air derby died in a wreck near Woodbine. A Curtiss representative was ordered to inspect debris at Brunswick and to travel from Columbia to assist in the investigation. Paris had flown in from Mineola and circled at about 2000 feet before the craft fell without fire. She had taken up aviation in 1928 and earlier survived a mud landing after a propeller came off. She planned to recruit backers in Florida to buy planes. Paris was reportedly divorced in 1928 and had attracted attention years earlier over medical fraud allegations involving a Dr Friedmann. She is survived by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Finley and a sister and brother.

Crime Study Maps Chicago's "bad lands" and crime districts
A Chicago Board of Crime Report concludes after eight years that crime concentrates in three districts surrounding the Loop stockyards and mills. Using maps of 60,000 offenders over 30 years, the study links industry encroachment, rising rents, and shifting populations to juvenile and adult delinquency with district-wide patterns and potential police reorganization.

Fugitive of Years Escapes Trial
BELTON Texas Jan 11 Thirteen indictments charging forgery against Arthur 8 Crouch a fugitive for 13 years until recently were dismissed by District Judge Few Brewster on motion of District Attorney Henry Taylor. Crouch sailed for New Zealand where he had lived since 1916 before arrest and return to face charges. The indictments stemmed from alleged losses by City National Bank and Temple banks totaling over 100000. The bank requested dismissal as Crouch had resolved to surrender. Taylor did not oppose. The bank spent over 20000 on detectives attorneys and Sheriff Bingham’s trip to New Zealand. Crouch had vanished in 1916 and later resurfaced in Temple before fleeing again. He had become prosperous as a grain merchant and land agent in Temple and had been boomed for mayor before extradition.
