Defaulters May Barred From Office In Arkansas Meet

Eight or ten county officials and one legislator may lose eligibility for office under the defaulter ban. Governor Futrell asked the comptroller to prepare a list of newly elected officials with county or state shortages. Commissions were reportedly held up for review, though Futrell said none were withheld. The list includes seven county collectors, a county judge, a circuit clerk, and a representative who was a former county collector. The exact defaulter amounts were not stated and some involved claims for fees and expenses. The note adds that constitutional rules bar money holders from state or General Assembly seats.
