Reports from Saigon and Washington said only two small clashes occurred and air and artillery losses were limited. A Phantom jet crashed near an artillery camp killing two Americans and a Vietnamese civilian. two helicopters were shot down earlier this week with one crewman killed and two wounded. One clash occurred 70 miles north of Saigon with 16 enemy bodies found and no U.S. casualties. A Mekong Delta patrol killed 14 guerrillas as a district town and a Special Forces camp were shelled. Fifteen rounds hit Tan Canh and Thanh Tri causing light casualties and damage to a camp, while the downed jet’s crew ejected safely. The week’s total aviation losses rose to 328 aircraft, with helicopter losses at 995. The allied advance continues with numerous sweep operations as Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces pull back into jungle hideouts.

FBI Agents Shot and Killed in Southeast Washington
Two FBI agents were fatally shot in a southeast Washington apartment building. Authorities issued a lockout for a 29 year old man who escaped from the District reformatory at Lorton Virginia, serving 16 to 63 years for robbery. Police reported the agents died at a hospital after the incident. Local officers and police formed a cordon and searched the three story building for the suspect.
