Iowa Might Free Arkansas Prisoner
U S District Judge Edward McManus issued a show cause order to consider freeing Roy Childers 28 from extradition to Arkansas. Gov Robert Ray and Linn County Sheriff Walter Grant have three days to justify denying a habeas writ while Childers faces federal municipal and justice court actions. Childers escaped an Arkansas jail last June and was arrested in Cedar Rapids after a family dispute led to charges of beating his wife, choking her and pointing a weapon. He also faced resisting arrest charges and claims of mental pressure amid a stay order delay on extradition.
