A wandering narrator visits Tambay Plantation seeking rest and a hidden motive. He rekindles memories of the estate, meets Jane Ann Judson and two Gullah helpers Ollie and Nellie, and sketches the place’s faded grandeur and current challenges. He plans to stay in the north room while observing the mansion and its keeper.
