Picket line blocks GM Detroit plant entry
January 3 Detroit United Automobile Workers picket blocked gates at General Motors Detroit transmission division, preventing several hundred office and salaried workers from entering. Police reported no violence. Union says workers violated an agreement to properly identify themselves at plant entrances. About 300 to 500 people involved, with police attempting to keep a passage open as lines formed.
