First Barges Come Up the Arkansas

Couple Die in Drowned Automobile Near Walnut Ridge
A Lawrence County couple Roy S. Hughes and his wife Lorene were found dead in their car Tuesday on Arkansas 381 nine gravel road about 30 miles southwest of Walnut Ridge. Coroner W C Bryan said the vehicle apparently drowned when the car dipped into a low spot amid high water from weekend rain. The accident occurred in a flooded area near Lake Howard as state police guarded the section.
