A minor river-bridge collision on the Washita River north of Pauls Valley Oklahoma brought together L. G. Druschel an 81 year old Omaha Nebraska motorist bound for Texas and Eugene A Ratcliffe 57 heading home. After the accident the two men and their families shared lunch and reminisced about old times.
Premier Eisaku Sato told the AP that Japan will closely align with the United States in 1965 regardless of Asia risks. He cited calm after China’s nuclear test and the U S Japan security treaty extending protection to 1971. Sato will visit Washington January 10 and has met with President Johnson and Ambassador Reischauer.
Michael Mason 17 of Guilderland, New York pleaded guilty to public intoxication and received a suspended 90 day sentence. The judge said the term would be invoked if he fails to complete high school.

Paris AP Charles de Gaulle declares France will seek an independent role free of U S influence in the Atlantic community and world. He says France will cooperate but reject supranational or Atlantist domination and pursue its own mastery in politics economy currency and defense. Observers see it as a potential bid for a new seven year term.
Sen John Sparkman says he will not decide to be floor manag er for the foreign aid bill until he sees the final form from the Foreign Relations Committee. Sen Fulbright objects to lumping military and economic aid. Sparkman suggests separating programs or shifting to multilateral aid with selective criteria and tighter eligibility standards.
