Drunken surgeon shot by police after taking grandchild hostage
In Birmingham Alabama police shot and killed Dr Abijah C Fields, 48, in a suburban home standoff after he threatened officers while holding his 16 month old grandchild. Patrolman Buchanan reported Fields fired three times, then cornered the officer before being fatally wounded. Fields had a history as a police problem for over 15 years and recently returned from a narcotic hospital in Kentucky.
