London Feb 25 Foreign Secretary Bevin charged that President Truman wrecked Palestinian peace talks by urging immediate admission of 100,000 Jews to the Holy Land during the U S election campaign. He said negotiations with Jews and Arabs had looked hopeful last October and questioned the Paris conference timing.
The Arkansas House sent the controversial two percent use tax bill back to committee after a 41 to 39 vote. Amendments to benefit counties and governor objections were adopted, including funds split first to the University of Arkansas and other colleges and county highways, and an exemption for heavy industrial machinery. The Senate moved to refund gasoline taxes to farm users and to deduct refunds from county aid funds. debate cited revenue losses for highway construction.

A section of new wooden bleachers collapsed at Purdue University field house during the Purdue Wisconsin basketball game killing two students and injuring about 200. Thousands watched as 26 rows of the 100-foot structure sagged to the dirt floor and rescuers improvised stretchers from collapsed seating.

A Senate banking subcommittee approved a bill to lift federal rent ceilings by 10 percent and end oversight by the Office of Price Administration. It would decontrol new housing not rented in 1946–47, remove hotel ceilings, and let landlords raise rents with mutual tenant consent for certain improvements.
The New Regular Army increases enlistment efforts with Corporal D H Trevor expanding recruiting in town. The Information Depot moves from the County courthouse to the American Legion Hall at 2nd and Walnut. Corporal Posse joins the staff to assist in all duties. Former Navy Marine and Coast Guard personnel may enlist as Private to Technical Sergeant for qualified specialists. Stan Mercer, a filling station operator in Helena Montana, arrived to assist a stalled car owner who claimed to have been warming it up by phone. Mercer opened the hood to discover four hot water bottles at the end of the engine.
