Insurance Backers Try New Tactics
LITTE ROCK AP Backers of bills to force out-of state insurance companies to invest more capital in Arkansas have shifted tactics. Senate amendments remove tax clauses, allowing passage by a simple majority. Bills still require investment in Arkansas or doing business in the state. Sen Bearden added amendments removing investment and reserve clauses. Hendrix withdrew a penal tax bill and proposed new requirements to invest in Arkansas. Senate approved the truck weight insurance bill 27-4 for Faubus signature. A 24-3 bill barred $5 Teamsters truck charges, Ingram sponsored. Also approved lower cooperative bylaws quorums and a $50 Confederate widow pension bill. A companion home abolition bill, passed last week, signaled Kremlin maneuvering with Marshal Tito.
