Debate over judiciary pay and prosecuting power in state legislature
The legislature defeated Pilkinton's bill to cut the circuit judge's drawing account in the Eighth district while endorsing moves to let the prosecuting attorney bring prisoners to trial by filing information. The editorial argues for a highly paid independent judiciary, preferably appointive and for long terms, criticizing politicization of courts and urging robust, nonpartisan rule of law.
