Hope Arkansas Fights Post Office Plan in Debt Era
Life Lines salutes Hope Arkansas citizens who opposed a new post office and rail against federal aid for street paving and urban renewal. Editor Washburn urged action with petitions, noting $500000 price and a preferred current building. GSA moved site, but locals say appeals were cut off as officials push a 50 year plan. The piece frames Hope’s stance within national debt concerns and population decline, calling it a Dusters Last Stand.

Arkansas May Have to Alter Two Districts
Rep. Raymond Mays of Cleveland County warned that Arkansas may need to adjust two congressional districts only by court order. The 1961 plan moved counties into larger districts, avoiding at large races in 1962 after petitions sought a popular vote.
