Other senate actions included tax collection tightening bills and a one fifth of one percent gross revenue tax on carriers under supervision of the Arkansas Public Service Commission to fund the commission. The house approved measures to raise county school supervisors’ salaries, allow second class cities to run police courts, curb advertising exemptions from the sales tax, require insanity pleas to be filed before trial dates, and bar cities from taxing government‑furnished cars for amputee veterans.

The National Farm Loan Association of Nashville announces its annual stockholders meeting at the courthouse in Nashville at 10 a.m. on Thursday March 3 1849. The cooperative provides long term low interest farm real estate loans via The Federal Land Bank of St. Louis and serves Hempstead Howard Pike Sevier and Polk counties. Rex Peel vice president and treasurer of the Federal Land Bank will attend and address members. L C Honeycutt is secretary treasurer.
In Los Angeles on February 18 a well dressed young man and an accomplice entered a bar, ordered drinks, and performed on the piano. The manager and patrons praised his voice and he claimed he could earn much money. They pulled guns, stole $240 from the register, and fled.
In Little Rock on February 18 the Arkansas House wrestled with budget battles as the Game and Fish Commission and Legislative Council faced criticism while the University of Arkansas budget remained unsettled. The House adopted the Game and Fish budget of 325,000 by 76 to 14, while attempts to block or alter it failed. The controversial university budget of 3,890,000 faced lengthy committee work without final passage. debate touched flexible budgeting versus itemized accounts. Other appropriations included land purchase near the capitol, police, capitol maintenance, and a proposed 8.7 mill state property tax for 1950 with allocations to general funds, welfare, and a medical center.
