Maestri Linked to Hot Oil Probe and Louisiana Politics
Federal report ties New Orleans Mayor Hubert Maestri to large profits from a half stake in Canal Oil Company while serving as state conservation commissioner. The Interior Department findings allege production excesses in the New Iberia field and claim Maestri’s stake violated state rules on resource allocation. The probe, led by Rogge and Viosen, notes no federal statute covers failing to enforce state law, while continuing study seeks applicable statutes.
