The Weather Man forecast at noon predicts colder and possibly freezing conditions on Tuesday night in the northern part of the state. He says colder weather will reach the southeast on Wednesday but did not indicate a freeze for that area or Hope. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected through Wednesday.
A Hope Arkansas reader argues against a county tax of five dollars per car, urging budget cuts and salary reductions in county government instead. The letter, dated February 13, 1933, cites the governor’s tax relief measures and calls economy at home the first step to aid rural roads and taxpayers.

In New Orleans Huey P. Long accused his brother Earl of lying after Earl testified before a senate committee that Huey received ten thousand dollars from Harry Abel, a purported electric power interests representative. Earl added he heard Huey sought Couch’s help to avoid impeachment, a claim Long denied. Harvey Couch is identified as president of regional power companies.
A. J. Robins, 82, civic leader and churchman and twice representative in the Arkansas legislature from Hempstead County, died suddenly at his home in Ozan. He was a Georgia-born farmer and cotton gin operator, and served as Justice of Peace and county Democratic chair. Funeral Wednesday at St. Paul church near Ozan with Masonic lodge participation. Surviving: two sons, three daughters, and numerous relatives.
L F Rogers of western Nevada county was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Allen Shipp on Shover street for carrying nearly two gallons of liquor hidden in an overcoat. He faces municipal court hearing next Monday.
In a barn loft near San Anselmo two young rivals James J Corbett and Joe Choynski settled a growing feud with a $1000 winner take all bout watched by Nat Goodwin Jack Dempsey and Eddie Graney. A sheriff raid interrupted the sixth round as tensions flared and the fight left a lasting memory in Corbett’s career.
Ernie Schaaf 24 year old Boston heavyweight dies from injuries after a bout with Primo Carnera at Madison Square Garden. Carnera faces manslaughter charges as police probe the match. Schaaf died at 4 10 a m after a brutal 13 round beating with his mother and manager present.
Detroit reports show Governor William Comstock declaring an eight day banking holiday effective Tuesday through February 21 after an all night conference with bankers and federal state officials. The move comes amid an acute financial emergency centered on Union Guardian Trust Company and fears of runs on deposits.
Hope units of the Arkansas Congress of Parent and Teachers will present a Founder's Day program in the auditorium of the new high school. Principal speaker will be Mrs Scott Wood of Hot Strings state president of the congress. The event is the high point of local PTA activities.
