Community notices list planned meetings and practices across Hope Country Club Unity Baptist First Methodist Garrett Memorial Baptist and other churches. Activities include choir rehearsals junior and intermediate groups youth classes and mission study completions with dates February 14 to 19 and several Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday sessions.
The American Legion Auxiliary notes a meeting moved from Monday February 15 at Haybeck post to Thursday night February 18 at the new Legion Hut. Mrs Nell Hopkins hosted the US Sunday School class meeting on Tuesday February 9 at her home with Mrs Shirley Hervey and Mrs Valla Dean Moslay assisting. The session opened with prayer, followed by a brief business period, a devotional on Psalms about the heart, a solo by Mrs Hervey, and several games with Mrs Braggins winning the Bible quiz on the heart and Mrs Lucy Calziny winning the Valentine quiz. hostesses offered cherry cake.
Readers may color in a scene from Lost Planet and drop it at the Saenger Theatre box office by 9 p.m. Saturday February 13. The best entry in each age group wins a free movie ticket. The first chapter plays Friday and Saturday. grown ups also qualify for a Lost Planet Club card to view the final chapter free.
Forty attendees at the Training Union Sweet Heart Banquet on Thursday night February 1 at 7 in the Educational Building. Decor included red velvet cloth centerpieces and tables with flowers and red candies. Miss Ruby Sue Cornelius crowned Queen of Hearts. a skit titled The Meeting of the Broken Hearted Old Maids was presented by several members. Reverend Edmund Peay delivered the guest address.
Hollywood reports Edward R Murrow Eve Arden and Desmond O Connor winning the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences top Emmys last night. Murrow was named outstanding TV personality of 1959 for See It Now and Arden earned best female star in a regular series. O Connor, a comedian on the Sunday Night Comedy Hour, won best male star. None of the top winners attended.
