Do Pass Tagged on Bill to Increase Truck Load Limit
LITTLEROCK AP Three House committees recommended passage of a truck weight package. The Roads and Highways Committee endorsed raising the truck weight to 73,280 pounds and transferring the Weights and Standards Division to the Highway Department. The Revenue and Taxation Committee approved a bill to raise license fees for trucks over 6,000 pounds. Highway Director I J Oliver noted axle load, not gross weight, drives road damage and the axle limits would stay at 18,000 pounds per axle and 32 tons on a tandem. He said license increases would align with base financing and neighboring states, though charges differ. The weather outlook included light snow in northern Mississippi and surrounding areas, with warmer temperatures to the south.
