HAMMAWAIN Algeria AP reports a 27 percent orbital error on France's Diadem satellite launched from the Sahara test base. With a maximum altitude about 315 miles lower than planned, stations in Algeria Greece and southern France cannot align lasers simultaneously, jeopardizing triangulation for terrain and distance measurements.

Blizzard Strikes Anew on Seaboard

A new snowstorm dumped up to 14 inches along the Atlantic coast from Virginia to New England, snarling transport and heightening losses after a prior blizzard. Four deaths from storm-related crashes were reported, with 83 deaths attributed to Tuesday's blizzard. Snow was heaviest in southeastern New Jersey where Atlantic City reported 14 inches, then tapering inland toward Maryland and Virginia. Temperatures to rise later as weather cleared.

West African Plot Broken in Sierra Leone Crisis

Prime Minister Sir Albert Margai said a military plot to seize Sierra Leone power was broken up. Plotters allegedly planned to kill the prime minister the army commander and several ministers and employees. Investigation continues with action to follow. Margai has led since April 1964 after independence.

Burglary Boots Youths Sent to State Boys School

Three teens aged 16 were sent to the Arkansas Boys School after a six week spree of burglaries and bootlegging near Hope. Bates faced burglary and grand larceny for selling whiskey at Hope High. Haynie and Neal were sent for burglary. Several minors aided or bought whiskey while others avoided prior police ties. most were placed on probation.

Roof Cave-In At St Rose Of Lima Church In Baltimore

In Baltimore during a Lenten Mass at St Rose of Lima Church the roof collapsed dumping debris on about 100 worshippers, many children. Forty eight were injured, nine hospitalized, and 13 year old Robert Rindone was listed in critical condition after a chandelier incident. A snowstorm may have reduced casualties.

Arkansas approves tax exemption for manufacturing machinery

The Arkansas House approved a 3 percent sales tax exemption for machinery and equipment used in manufacturing and processing plants, with the measure costing about $500,000 annually. The Senate passed a Constitutional Revision Study Commission proposal 26-5, and a school enumeration bill and a ban on certain insurer investment policies received attention.
