State sales tax bill advances through senate action
The Senate approved a bill requiring wholesalers to report merchandise to the state revenue department. The measure, backed by Gov McMath, would impose fines for evasions and delayable penalties for those refusing to supply information. Wholesalers argue the bill adds burdens and could hurt retailers. A public debate followed with questions about legality and impact before final passage.
