Potomac Gus Washington’s Birthday Fife and Drum Corps
Gus Washington admitted he cannot sing or play an instrument yet the Mount Vernon birthday tradition features the Fife and Drum Corps of the Honor Guard Company, 3rd Infantry Old Guard. The corps wears Revolutionary era uniforms with wigs and uses handmade drums and an espontoon to cue musicians while performing tunes like The World Turned Upside Down and Yankee Doodle at Washington events across the United States and abroad.
