Kidnaper Gets Seven Years in Arkansas Case
Jesse William Miller, 42, a recurring offender, was sentenced by Judge Harry J. Lemley in federal court to seven years in the penitentiary for kidnapping Dorothy Crawford Garner, his 10 year old step-daughter. Miller’s wife Attilla Miller was acquitted on an instructed verdict. Miller showed strain as the verdict and sentence were read, while Lemley noted weak evidence linking him to the crime but found him guilty of peonage. The case involved luring Garner from her DeQueen farm to Texas on a false story about her grandfather’s illness.
