DETROW The Detroit Arsenal announced a flotating equipment to let 43 ton Arties tanks operate on water. Tests with M4 and Mah medium tanks in Lake St Clair show plastic foam wings keep the tank afloat while allowing firing from turrets. Steering remains internal, and wings can be dropped on shore when needed.

A taxi driver reported Williamson brandishing two guns and talking wildly in a car. Police arrived to find Williamson seated in a second vehicle and he shot himself before officers could reach him. Williamson, a former Cotton Belt Railroad employee, had been ill for about two years.
In Washington McCarthy dismissed charges that congressional investigators damaged U S information agencies. He said his probe would continue and mocked fears about communist influence while praising the commission for its work. The Foreign Relations panel members supported the report and urged further inquiry into overseas information efforts.
Several states led by Alabama Rhode Island Texas California Florida and the federal government urged the Supreme Court to block an attack on the legality of a law allowing use of submerged lands. The hearing focuses on whether a formal suit will be filed or this is a test in a potential long legal battle. Rhode Island counsel argued against political interference.
