A House Roads and Highways Committee in Little Rock endorsed two state gasoline turnback bills for cities. One bill seeks about 3.4 million in city turnback, the other would set cities at 4,006,000 annually, while county shares stay at 7.3 million. If neither passes, cities would receive about 4.18 million due to highway bond retirement.

Convicted Woman Given Furlough in Arkansas Case

Mrs Naomi Shinn convicted of manslaughter in the slaying of a Kansas City policeman has been granted a furlough from the Arkansas Penitentiary. Sheriff Jack Gregory said she surrendered last week, then received a 460 day furlough due to illness while undergoing medical treatment in Kansas City. She was free on 310000 bond pending an appeal to the state Supreme Court, which will not be filed, and is a native of Fulton County Arkansas.

Hot Springs Ark AP reports the death of Le ta Yarbrough a young daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben Yarbrough of Hot Springs in a fatal incident that occurred Monday with details incomplete from the clipping.

Arkansas legislators debated trimming the AM&N appropriation by 25 000 annually and approved a plan to shorten constitutional amendment time. Mrs Yarbrough suffered burns to her hands last Wednesday while rescuing a child from flames that ignited the child's clothing as a stove flare up started the fire at their home.

Trailer towing service denied in Arkansas

National Trailer Convoy Inc of Tulsa Oklahoma failed to secure permission to run a mobile home towing service in Arkansas. Judge J Mitchell Cockrill upheld a 1959 Arkansas Commerce Commission ruling denying operations. The firm had sought terminals at Fort Smith Hot Springs and Jonesboro.

Minuteman Missile System to Start Silo Construction

Construction will begin on 200 foot deep silos and facilities for three 55 missile Minuteman squadrons at Malmstrom AFB near Great Falls Montana. Missiles will be remotely operated from five posts, with underground checkout consoles and a single squadron guard of about 9 men per missile. The first Minuteman train will roll in 1963 across 100000 miles of railroad. Minuteman uses solid fuel, reducing handling complexity, size, weight, and personnel compared with Atlas and Titan systems.

Fort Smith Girl Dies in Wreck

In Fort Smith Arkansas a 16 year old girl was killed and two others injured when their car plunged down a 25 foot embankment after failing to negotiate a sharp curve in a Fort Smith residential district Tuesday night. Nikki Priakos, daughter of Mrs Walter L Hammock, was killed. Barbara Agent 16 was hospitalized with a broken jaw and Linda Winford 16 was treated for shock and released. Officers said Miss Winford was driving the car.
