Governor and Moses clash over power expansion issues
In Little Rock on January 31 Governor McMath and Arkansas Power & Light president C Hamilton Moses debated public versus private power. Moses defended AP&L expansion, rural electrification, and asserted no industry left Arkansas for power shortages while McMath pressed for domestic defense plant placement and urged state-backed power solutions. The governor pledged cooperation on AP&L’s expansion but opposed the Ozark plant, backing broader power availability within Arkansas.

Federal Tax Slows Gambling Says Expert In 1930s Memo
Federal tax on gambling dramatically slows the industry, with Eugens Coyle of the revenue bureau noting big operators closing while many smaller bettors continue. The FCC orders a probe into Western Union use of telegraph wires for gambling and delays new regulations to May 3 for hearings on constitutionality and impact on illegal gambling. Estimates show tax collections near $82,904 in December, with projections of revenue but a noted drop as operators adjust to the new law.
