Hostage crisis ends with shooter killed in Wichita suburb
In Haysville Kansas undersheriff Sam Davidson said the decision to kill the former mental patient Larry Leer came from the need to save eight lives. Leer held Bonnie Horinek and her four children and seven others hostage using a pistol rifle and six other weapons. Police and sheriff deputies surrounded the home as Leer asserted the officers had signed their death warrants. A Haysville officer was grazed by a bullet as the situation peaked before Leer was killed by law enforcement.
