Rebuilding Arkansas Highways Faces Federal Aid Hurdles
State Highway Chief A E Johnson says 9 1/2 miles of trunkline must be rebuilt and full completion depends on more lenient federal terms. He urges 75 percent matching aid to finish US 5 70 from Little Rock to Memphis and US 67 through Little Rock, Hope, Texarkana within about 15 years, noting prewar trunk highways were degraded after the war.

Truman Opposed By Morse On Three Day Coal Week
Washington December 29 Senator Morse attacks President Truman over the three day coal week saying it risks national health and safety and may not be halted by executive action. He notes the possibility of an ICC order cutting passenger service and contrasts it with Taft Hartley powers and potential court action. Morse supports repealing the act and argues current limits prevent acting on a mere economic dispute.
