Mendel Rivers Dies in Alabama at 65
Rep. L Mendel Rivers longtime head of the House Armed Services Committee died early today in University Hospital Birmingham Alabama after heart failures following extensive surgery to replace a leaking mitral valve. Rivers 65 had been a powerful voice for military superiority and his death clears the 91st Congress of a leading chair. He will be succeeded by Rep F Edward Hebert as chairman in the next Congress.

Tax Hike Is Hinted in New Budget
Gov Dale Bumpers presented to the Arkansas Legislative Council a general revenue budget of 255.4 million for the next fiscal year with plans for possible add ons or curtailments. Body Identified Tentatively in Ark. Decomposition Probe
MORRISTON Ark AP authorities said Sunday night they had not positively identified a badly decomposed body found Sunday afternoon near Plummerville. Sheriff Marlin Hawkins said the body was found by Junior Garrett who had been search.
