Local notices report Tom Anderson died in a nursing home with funeral plans set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Herndon Chapel, burial at Old Union Cemetery. Also listed is the death of Maude Cox in Houston, widow of William Lester Cox, with funeral arrangements and a large Cox family remaining in Texas and Arkansas.
Troop 92 held a Christmas court of honor where merit badges and ranks were announced. Assistant scoutmasters Raymond Pine and Jack Green presented awards including Star ranks for Larry, Dickie, and Jerry Dickie, and Second Class for Daniel Gary. Merit badges awarded to Glen Cochran, Nickle Madison, Mike Beard, Dewayne Powell, Vata Mavali, Irvin, and others for camping, soil and water conservation, world citizenship, reptiles, beef production, and soil-related skills.
Miss Wanda Williams, assistant home economist for Hempstead County, discussed Cooperative Extension Service work. Vernon Wickliffe led the program and John Whitten was inducted as the newest Hope Rotary Club member. Slides showed Extension Homemakers Clubs projects in food, clothing, home planning, and immunization. 4H Club Hop in Hope.
J W Rowe director of Red River Vocational Technical School says a comprehensive employment training act course will be offered in Hope starting January 10. The twenty week program trains persons to enter automotive mechanic helper fields with classroom and shop work. Fifteen students will be accepted with referrals from a routine office. There is no tuition and government aid is available for attendees.
