Oiler Meritor Collects Pay in Court
El Dorado Mississippi Dec 21 UP The El Dorado Oilers manager in the Cotton States league has collected 4727 from the former owner of the club in a court suit here. Chancery Judge W A Speer awarded the judgment to Oiler Pilot Leroy Schalk who alleged he never collected on loans to former club owner Harry Brandt of Shreveport Louisiana. Schalk also claimed Brandt owed back salary. The club, financially weak and trailing in league standings last year, was taken over from Brandt by local businessmen. In late 1950 the Cotton States League itself took over ownership. Schalk said he loaned Brandt money to pay for playing and seating equipment during the 1950 season. Brandt filed a cross-complaint for 25000 damages claiming Schalk demoralized the clan and abandoned his contract. Brandt withdrew both his answer and cross-complaint before yesterday's hearing.
