Six people died and two were critically injured in a two car head on collision on U S Highway 67 about six miles east of Hope. Dorothy Ritz 49 of Jacksonville Texas and Robert Timbrook 39 of Chester Texas were drivers of the two cars and among the dead. Other victims included Dr G D Ritz 51 Carrie Parks Timbrook 39 Tim 13 and Billie Jean 5. Two Timbrook children Lynn 12 and Carrie 6 were injured and hospitalized. Funeral homes transported bodies and deputies investigated noting the tragedy as severe.
