Dodecanese History and the Rose of the Aegean
The Dodecanese islands, known as The Rose of the Aegean, have a long Greek history from myth through Turkish rule and Italian occupation. Despite hopes of Greek control after 1912, Britain’s occupation and treaties left the islands under Italian rule, with Rhodes archbishop expelled and Greece deprived of rightful return. An expedition to expel Italians is discussed as a possible future action.
