Hearst Attacks Roosevelt Policy on Philippine Independence
The piece condemns William Randolph Hearst and his Chicago Herald Examiner for urging the United States to retain and fortify the Philippines to prevent Japanese seizure, arguing it ignores the pledge to independence and risks provoking conflict with Japan. It contrasts Hearst’s big‑paper influence with editors who resist war drums and highlights historical cautions from Rome on imperial overreach.
