Arkansan Is Rhodes Scholar

SWARTHMORE Ark., AP William J. Clinton a senior at Georgetown University from Hot Springs was selected as a Rhodes Scholar. He is one of 32 Americans chosen for at least two years of study at Oxford University in England. The $2,760 annual grant covers tuition and living costs. Navajo Tribe Struck by Worst Storm Hopes for Break

The Navajo Nation in Window Rock faces extreme distress after a severe storm last Tuesday night. An estimated 60,000 Navajos experience varying hardships across the 16,000 to 18,000 square miles of the 23,600 square mile reservation as helicopters plan to shuttle food, shelter, clothes, and medical aid. One death is confirmed, a 60 year old sheep herder in the Harthedst area.

More Raids on Enemy Cost 3 Jets

American planes continued raids on North Vietnam for the fifth straight day. The U S Command reported three jets lost Sunday two shot down by MIG interceptors. An F105 and an F4 Phantom were downed, with two crewmen missing. One Phantom was hit by ground fire. one crewman was killed and the other rescued. Including Sunday, a Phantom was shot down Saturday. U S records show 36 American planes and 99 MiGs shot down in air combat so far. A total of 765 U S warplanes have been reported lost over the North. See MORE RAIDS On Page 9.

Arkansas Supreme Court rules Davis ineligible as police director

The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled 6 to 1 that Lynn A. Davis cannot serve as police director because he did not meet the Arkansas residency requirement of at least 10 years before appointment. The decision reverses a circuit court ruling, with Justice Ward dissenting. Governor Rockefeller had proposed Davis’s appointment be eligible if the court ruled otherwise.
