Lops $4.5 Million From Arkansas College Budgets
Arkansas Legislative Council cut state higher education budgets by 4.5 million dollars, short of the 5.3 million goal. Lawmakers propose restoring funds if more general revenues materialize, with a Jan 7 adjournment to wrap up issues before the session. Authorities project potential revenue growth from a proposed income tax withholding system to complete restorations. The panel also advanced anti strike measures and a county judge powers reform, while dodging an agricultural sales tax exemption bill.
