Cherokee land runner dies in Durant at 104
Charles A. Lewis, a survivor of the 1889 Cherokee land run, died Monday in a Durant hospital. He would have turned 105 Feb 12. Born in Moritory County Missouri, he came to Indian Territory in 1883 and traded his 160 acre claim for a horse the day after settlement opened.
