Airman deemed mentally incompetent after bank robbery

Yesterday a state hospital report said the 27-year-old Little Rock airman was mentally incompetent and not responsible at the time of the theft. About $1348.75 was taken from Planters Bank and Trust on October 13. Walden was arrested the same day and found with the money. he will not be brought to trial. The judge has not decided whether to retain him at the state hospital or turn him over to military authorities. Hospital officials said the airman, recently returned from Germany, was distraught over not having money to bring his new wife to the country and may have been near death by his own action at the robbery time.
